About Our Volunteer Program
Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling welcomes volunteers to assist with various programs throughout the year. Some opportunities to volunteer include:
Recycling Center
Under supervision of staff, volunteer may perform the following tasks:
- Wait on customers
- Unload vehicles
- Sort items dropped off
- Educate visitors on acceptable and unacceptable items
- Run the foam cycler machine (requires some strength; will get dirty)
All tasks require the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, strength, and the willingness to get dirty in varying weather conditions.
Litter Cleanups
As a volunteer, you will work independently to:
- Choose a road in your neighborhood
- Invite friends and neighbors to help
- Arrange for trash disposal
- Obtain cleanup supplies with our help
- Get to work
- Report your results to Westmoreland Cleanways
Illegal Dump Cleanups
As a volunteer, you will work independently to:
- Find a cleanup site and get necessary approval
- Invite friends and neighbors to help
- Arrange for trash disposal
- Obtain cleanup supplies with our help
- Get to work
- Report your results to Westmoreland Cleanways
Educational Support
- Help staff a table at a public event
- Provide educational support by folding newsletters, brochures, preparing craft supplies, and/or cleaning the vermicomposting bin
Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance
- Help maintain and beautify Westmoreland Cleanways property by caring for the pollinator garden and other flower beds, weeding, trimming brush, and other necessary grounds maintenance
